Installation
Whilst there is every chance that phpdev5 will work on windows 98 && windows 95 with winsock2 it has at this point only been tested and assumed to work on windows NT,2K & XP.

Running the dev5beta2.exe file will start the NSIS installer, phpdev5 can be installed anywhere you wish unlike phpdev4 which only worked if installed to c:\phpdev. The only recommendation I have about installation paths is NOT to install to a drive root i.e. C:\ or D:\ , anywhere else is good.

When NSIS has done its bit, PHP-GTK should take over and offer you the choice of a quick install or configuring some stuff before you install, either is good, but configuring is recommended, note that one of the install functions - 'install apache as a service' y/n, is ignored, by default apache and apache 2 are installed as windows services but the phpdev manager lets you uninstall these services if required.

Installation should take a second or so & you will see a couple of DOS windows appear then disappear - this is quite normal.
When the install is complete, 'spiny' the phpdev5 manager should appear (give it a second or so) and let you get cracking with phpdev5, note you have a few options but you really need to choose the 1st option button (phpdev) and try the 'start phpdev' option, after that you can play around with the other stuff.
Note that the phpdev5 manager seems to hang for a second or so during some operations, this is due to the fact that checking the current status of apache and mysql is quite slow if they are not already up and running.

Apache and Apache2 - are both configured to the same port (80) so be aware that you can not have them both running at the same time on the same port, if however you do want both versions running for some obscure reason ;) you will need to change the port number (apache1.3.26) or the listen address (apache2.0.36) i.e. you can change apache2's listen to 81, then access apache2 via http://localhost:81 etc.
