15/10/2001 MySQL 4.0 is here!
The long awaited version 4.0 of the MySQL database is now available for download at the MySQL website. The new version is intended as a platform for building mission critical, heavy load database solutions, and much effort has been put into providing a solid foundation for planned enhancements, some of which are included from the start.

2001/07/24 Presenting the new MySQL Logo
We're proud to present the new MySQL logo - a jumping dolphin - symbolizing the speed, power, precision and good nature of the MySQL database and community. The logo will be gradually introduced in the weeks to come.
I cant bring myself to display the logo here, I mean I know animals are popular in the open source world - but a bloody dolphin, they could have done better than that! (IMO)FP
2001/03/07 Oracle Migration Kit shows MySQL Impact
At MySQL AB we are pleased to note that Oracle Corporation has shown their recognition of the significant MySQL impact in the database market by creating a MySQL-Oracle migration kit. We are delighted that Oracle shares our view that it should be easy to transfer data between various database architectures.
2001/01/22 MySQL 3.23 Declared Stable
MySQL, the worlds most widely used Open Source Database, version 3.23, is now declared stable. It\'s been almost two years since the previous version 3.22 was declared stable in January 1999. This means that MySQL 3.23 can now be safely used in production environments. Version 3.23 was released under the GNU GPL-license in June 2000 and has been available in several pre-stable versions ever since.
2001/01/04 NASA switches from Oracle to MySQL
In November a team at NASA\'s Marshall Space Flight Center finished the transition of the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) from Oracle to MySQL. NAIS sends e-mail notifications to users based on specified interests and enables users to query the Web site (nais.nasa.gov) for updated opportunities.
